The Baguio Filipino-Chinese General Hospital has been serving the people of the Cordilleras since 1968, under the leadership of its founder and medical director Dr. Charles L. Cheng. The hospitals objective: To provide primary health care and intensive health care to patients and clients; to conduct research and training of personnel; to propagate acupuncture as an alternative mode of treating various diseases afflicting the people of the Cordilleras. At 73 years of age, Dr. Charles L. Cheng is still an active researcher and is very much hands-on in the activities of the hospital. Dr. Cheng shares that the institution is open to training doctors who want to learn traditional medicine including haci therapy and xuebao, all Chinese methods of treating illnesses. Dr. Cheng admits to practicing these methods himself.

He likewise received the Outstanding Research Award given by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Philippine Council for Health Research and Development in 1997. He was recipient of the Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Medicine from the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) in 1999. He also won first prize in Environmental Protection, Primary Health Care Project, given by the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians Inc. in 1995. And Last but not least, he was awarded Most Outstanding Citizen of Baguio, Millenium Award in year 2000.
