At 73 years of age, Dr. Charles L. Cheng is still an active researcher and is very much hands-on in the activities of the hospital. Dr. Cheng admits to practicing these methods himself.

He likewise received the Outstanding Research Award given by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Philippine Council for Health Research and Development in 1997. He was recipient of the Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Medicine from the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) in 1999. He also won first prize in Environmental Protection, Primary Health Care Project, given by the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians Inc. in 1995. And Last but not least, he was awarded Most Outstanding Citizen of Baguio, Millenium Award in year 2000.
