Easter College Baguio in Baguio City - Philippines

University life is indeed different for different people. Some people think that the period during their university years is the most exciting and probably most liberating. Let us take a closer look into the usual university life of students in a busy city like Baguio and an established college like the Easter College.

University life is considered different and unique in many ways. One of the reasons for this is the fact that we enter the university during our mid or late teens. This age factor takes on a big role because our independence is finally ours to practice. Another reason is the fact that most universities have a more open nature when it comes to ideas, actions, academic methodologies and even political and social standpoints.

In a university like Easter College, its place in history takes influence on the students. Easter College is the oldest college in the whole area of the Cordilleras. It was established in 1906 by the Philippine Episcopal Church’s first missionary bishop who was retired Rev. Charles Henry Brent. During the many years of its existence, Easter College has continued to gain recognition and excellence by different Christian schools and associations all over the Philippines.

With a rich history and an educational legacy to pass on, Easter College students find these facts their motivation for academic excellence. In spite of being a Christian school, Easter College has taken part in numerous activities together with other schools and universities in Baguio City, Benguet and Cordillera.

Two years ago, Easter College has celebrated its 100th Foundation Day through the efforts of Easter College Alumni Foundation, school administration and supporters. Activities for the Centennial celebration were a march down Baguio City’s roads, lighting of ceremonial bonfire, and finally the canvassing of votes for the college’s Mr. and Miss Centennial.

Easter College brings together people of different cultures and backgrounds. Students of Easter College speak different languages and dialects. Aside from English and Filipino, some of the more common dialects spoken are Kankana-ey, Ibaloi, English, Ilocano, Tagalog, Chinese and Pangalatot. The reason for this cultural diversity is the fact that students come from different regions in the country.

Easter College students, faculty and staff all contribute to Baguio’s being the so-called university town of Northern Luzon. The reason is the fact that Baguio City is home to many prestigious universities and colleges.

Despite its rich educational and cultural wealth, Easter College students remain to be the normal and fun-loving students of our times. A touch of diversity with excellent academic performance, this college still remains to make waves for the next century.
