Fil-Am Golf Tournament Holds a Guinness World Record

Who thinks Filipinos could not follow the footsteps of the world-known golf player Tiger Woods? Who says we do not have the skills and the area for playing such sports as golf? Well, now is the time for Filipinos to strike and prove themselves in the golf arena because we already have this so-called Fil-Am Golf Tournament held at the city of Baguio annually. Or if you think you are not fit to play the sport, but enjoy the sight of those skilled players in your favorite sports channel, why not try to witness watching them personally? Baguio is surely near enough for those golf fanatics.

The Fil-Am Golf Tournament, now known to many as the Fil-Am Golf Invitational, is a yearly tournament for amateur golf players held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course of Baguio Country Club (BSC) and Camp John Hay. Year 1949 marked the beginning of this event which grew more and more popular among the Filipino and American elite. Actually, this Fil-Am Golf Tournament is the year 2007 holder of the Guinness Record as the world’s largest amateur tournament for its unbeatable players of more than a thousand yearly. And because of this great prestige this event holds, they are further inviting amateur golf players in order to sustain the title this year.

The two-week golf tourney is played on two golf courses, the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay, two medal rounds for each golf course. The tournament is divided into the Seniors and the Regulars. Once your team, or in golf jargon, “club”, composed of up to six golfers are already part of either the Seniors or the Regulars division, you are going to choose if you want to join the Filipino or the American subdivision. The Seniors division takes places throughout the first week, and the Regulars division plays the week after. Both tourney divisions have five flights and a championship flight. Also each division is allowed to have two rounds of practice and four medal rounds.

So, what are you waiting for? Worry not of being hit by the very hard golf ball, practice striking those golf balls, clear your vision, focus on that hole, and strike. Who knows? This might trigger your latent talent in golf. Remember, it is never too late to hone your golf skills. And, yes, it is not just the game that matters; it is also a matter of hanging out with different people and enjoying each other’s company while getting thrilled with what is happening in the game.
