How to Get to and from Subic / La Union - Philippines
The tremendous improvements in road infrastructure and transport modes have made the process of getting to La Union from Baguio and also Subic simpler. Here are some of the options on tap for prospective travelers.
Back and forth from La Union to Baguio
By far the most common way for one to go back and forth between these two places is by taking the bus. If you are in Baguio, you simply have to go to the bus terminal. Once you are there board the bus that is headed for San Fernando. If you do not know which is which, you can ask one of the dispatchers there. The length of the trip is usually 2 to 3 hours.
From La Union to Baguio, you may go to the bus terminals located in San Fernando (this is in La Union). The cost of going to La Union from Baguio and back is usually Php 150 to Php 200.
Another option would be to take the Swagman Fly the Bus service. The rides here are more comfortable but they are also more expensive. The rate may start at Php 350. If you prefer, you can also avail of car or van rental services (there is the Beeline Travel in La Union). The cost for a car rental will be around Php 3,200 while the van fee is set at Php 3,800.
If you would rather take your car, head to Session Road and go to the left turn at the intersection. Keep going straight until you see a right turn; take it. When you see the y shaped junction, go left. There will be plenty of buses there and you just have to follow them. At Bauang, you will see a right turn. Take it and you will be in San Fernando in La Union.
Back and forth from Subic to Baguio
The Swagman Fly the Bus service is also available for those who are bound for Subic. If you are in Olongapo or the nearby area, you can also avail of car or van rentals as well. If you prefer the ordinary bus, you just need to go to the bus terminal in Baguio and choose one bound for Olongapo or Subic (the bus is usually Victory Liner). The ride itself will last about six hours. Driving by car may be faster, but it will all depend on the traffic.
