A Brief History of Silahis ng Pasko

The month long pageantry started in 1972 through the leadership of Luis Lardizabal, former Mayor of Baguio City. The original aim for having this program is to commemorate the contributions of overseas Filipino workers to the developments in the city. Since then the city government of Baguio makes sure that there will be events in Silahis ng Pasko that are especially meant for balikbayans like the Annual Balikbayan Day.

Activities and Special Events in Silahis ng Pasko

Locale residents in Session Road start to put Christmas decorations and lights at their homes during the latter weeks of November to prepare for the opening parade of Silahis ng Pasko that usually begins in the first week of December. It is a tradition that the present Mayor of the city leads the opening parade for the pageantry. After the parade, people can watch cultural presentations that feature children from the various day care centers in Baguio City.

Other special events in the pageantry that people want to watch are Little Mr. and Ms. Silahis ng Pasko, Annual Balikbayan Day and Baguios Lucky Foreign Visitor. Local residents also enjoy Special Day for Special People since some residents with physical disabilities showcase their talents and skills to the crowd.
