Taxis in Baguio City - Philippines

One thing about drivers of Baguio taxis that most tourists note is their politeness. Most of them have friendly and mild manners that make touring Baguio extra pleasant. It must be the weather up there.

Anytime of day we get to the City of Pines there are always cabs around. Even at 1 or 2 in the morning, we dont have to worry about getting to the hotel where we booked. Baguio taxis are always around, drivers more than eager to bring us to our destination, knowledgeable about every square-inch of the city.

Most Baguio taxis are Tamaraw FX types, 10 seaters (two in front including the driver, four in the mid-row, and for at the back), and ply routes within the city proper. When were contemplating on areas outside the city proper, then we should hire a van or jeepney which abounds in the city. Taxis seldom use air-conditioning.

There are also car-type cabs with 5 seats available, including the driver. With most FX Baguio taxis the seats at the back are not available. They reserve that area for baggage or merchandise items like fruits and vegetablesalthough many suspect its to keep passengers to a limit. FX Baguio taxis with full capacity will find steep slopes, which are plenty in the city, quite hard to negotiate.

The initial flag-down is Php 25.00 and its good for the initial 500 meters we travel. Afterwards, the taxi meter adds Php 1.50 each 100 meters we travel. Lots of tourists find rates of Baguio taxis very affordable compared to those in Metro Manila. And theyre easy to spot even some distance away. Theyre always painted white and appropriately identified.

We may also arrange a special renting contract with most Baguio taxis. For a whole day tour of the city it may cost us some Php 1800 to Php 2000, sometimes a bit more, depending on the terrain of the tour routes of our preference. And whole day doesnt really mean 24 hours but something like 8 or 9 hourslong enough for us to see most of the citys scenic spots. Usually, we may request a cab service from most provincial bus terminals through a mere phone call.

Most drivers of Baguio taxis can also act as tourist guides. Just hop in and relax and the driver will take care of the itinerary for us, with matching tourist guide talks and updates on the city sightseven interactive ones. And no cause for worry about language barriersmost of them speak English.
